Former Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik has revealed that he is no longer interested in playing for the national side.

In an interview with Cricket Pakistan, Malik expressed satisfaction with his career.

"I am very happy and satisfied after playing for so many years," the 42-year-old cricketer said.

Malik clarified that he has already retired from two formats and will continue to play in leagues, but has no desire to represent Pakistan again.

"But I still play leagues and I'm enjoying it and I always try to avail new opportunities but playing for Pakistan, I'm not interested," the all-rounder explained.

In response, the host asked if he was hinting at his retirement from all formats.

"Look, I said that I don't have any interest... but yes when will I announce retirement that will be from every format of cricket but, playing for the national team, I'm not interested,' he reiterated.

Malik also offered support to white-ball skipper Babar Azam, who has been facing criticism since last year for Green Shirts lackluster performace.

“Ups and downs are a part of life, especially when you are a cricketer from the subcontinent. He needs to stay strong during this time. I know he has a personality that embraces challenges; right now, it’s a downtime, but good times will come too,” the sportsman said.

However, Malik suggested that the 29-year-old star batter should focus on playing and not leadership.

“As for his captaincy, my firm stance is that he should play only as a player. That’s my opinion. When he plays as a player, he can do wonders for the team. But in my opinion, he should stay away from leadership."
