Australian cricketer Usman Khawaja lashed out at the recent Israeli attack on Gaza, stating that if such brutality had been inflicted on Israelis, the world’s response would have been different. He emphasised that the violence against Palestinian people should not be normalised.
Emphasising the urgent need for humanitarian intervention amidst the horrors faced by Palestinian civilians during the Israeli military offensive, Khawaja said, “We can't normalise this type of brutality.”
The Aussie batter exrpressed his concerns as the situation in Gaza continues to deteriorate, raising concerns about the safety and well-being of those affected by the Israeli assault that resumed from Tuesday and claimed over 400 lives.
Khawaja shared a picture of a minor’s remains, stating that over 130 children were killed in a single day for no reason, but just to shatted the ceasefire agreement.
“Now imagine if that happened on the opposite side. The outrage that would occur,” said the batter, highlighting society’s double standards in responding to Middle Eastern conflicts. He added that “all lives aren't equal.”
“For some reason, these kids will be footnotes or just numbers in history. But they too have names and mothers, fathers, sisters and brothers like you.”
He added: “We can't normalise this type of brutality. Although I'm afraid we may already have. I can't believe this is still happening.”
Earlier the month, Australian cricketer Usman Khawaja had voiced his anger on a popular sports radio network in his country, for terminating a renowned commentator Peter Lalor for criticising Israel’s genocide in Gaza on social media.
