India: Grandparents kill baby girl for want of a boy

A woman allegedly killed her two-month-old granddaughter in Muzaffarpur district in India's Bihar because she wanted a grandson from her daughter-in-law.

She not only killed her granddaughter with the help of her husband and other family members but also buried her body at a deserted place that was half a kilometer away from their home.

The deceased was the daughter of Dheeraj Ojha, who was married to Komal Kumari.

Dheeraj Ojha’s family wanted their first grandchild to be a son, but Komal gave birth to a daughter two months back.

SHO Alok Kumar stated, “When the mother wasn't able to find the baby after the continuous search she then filed a complaint at the police station.”

Komal’s mother-in-law Sarohj Devi, and father-in-law Ashok had been harassing her for dowry since she got married, the police officer said, adding that they have arrested.
