A senior Hamas official said on Wednesday that following Donald Trump’s election victory, he will be tested on previous statements that he can stop the war in Gaza.

“We urge Trump to learn from [President Joe] Biden’s mistakes,” Sami Abu Zuhri told Reuters on Wednesday.

“You have to finish up your war. To finish it up. You gotta get it done. And I am sure you will do that,” he said. “And we gotta get to peace, we can’t have this going on. And I will say, Israel has to be very careful, because you’re losing a lot of the world, you’re losing a lot of support, you have to finish up, you have to get the job done. And you have to get on to peace, to get on to a normal life for Israel, and for everybody else,” he added.

Trump in his victory speech reiterated that he is not here to start new wars but to end wars. During his election campaign, Trump promised to end the Gaza war after coming into power which helped him to get the majority of votes of Arab-Americans.

During his election campaign, Trump told Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that he wants Israel to wrap up the war in Gaza by the time he returns to office if he wins the election, two sources familiar with the matter revealed to The Times of Israel this week.

Trump has previously pushed a plan that would allow Israel to gain greater control over the Palestinians. In that plan, Trump vowed to help guide $50 billion in international investment toward the Palestinian people, helping it prop up their economy.
