Israel's military reported on Thursday that it launched airstrikes on multiple targets linked to Houthi rebels in Yemen.
The attacks targeted key infrastructure, including Sanaa International Airport, as well as power stations and military sites along Yemen’s western coast.
Strikes hit the Hezyaz and Ras Kanatib power stations and facilities in the ports of Hodeidah, Salif, and Ras Kanatib, according to the Israeli military.
The Houthi-run Al Masirah TV confirmed the attacks on Sanaa airport and the Hodeidah power station.
This was not the first Israeli airstrike on Sanaa airport, according to Yemeni journalist, Mohammed al-Attab, who noted the airport had been bombed several times in the past but had been rehabilitated each time. No casualties have been reported from Thursday’s strikes so far.
WHO Team Targeted in Israeli Bombing
Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, head of the World Health Organization, was among a group of UN officials preparing to board a plane at Sanaa airport when it was struck by Israeli bombs. Tedros confirmed that at least one crew member was injured and that two people were killed in the attack. The air traffic control tower, departure lounge, and runway were also damaged. Fortunately, the UN and WHO team were unharmed.
Tedros added that the UN delegation was in Yemen to negotiate the release of detained UN staff and assess the humanitarian situation in the country.
The Israeli airstrikes followed a series of missile and drone attacks launched by the Houthis toward Israel. On Wednesday, Yemen’s Houthi rebels fired a ballistic missile and drones at Israel.
Over the weekend, a Houthi missile struck a playground in Tel Aviv, wounding 16 people. The Houthis have stated that they are acting in solidarity with Palestinians, particularly those in Gaza, where Israeli military actions have led to significant casualties.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant have warned that Israel will continue its military strikes in Yemen.
