Several Israelis were injured on Saturday after a 'hypersonic ballistic missile' launched by Yemen struck the Jafaa area in Tel Aviv.
The Israeli army reported that its defense system failed to intercept the missile, resulting in 16 individuals sustaining light injuries.
In response, the Popular Resistance Committees, a coalition of armed pro-Palestinian factions based in Gaza and the occupied West Bank, claimed responsibility for the attack. They said the strike highlighted Israel’s inability to defend against Yemeni missiles.
In a statement released on Telegram, the committees stated that the successful strike “exposes the fragility of Israel's security and military system.”
They further added “The continuation of the Yemeni support front and the escalation of its operations confuses the Zionists’ calculations and dispels the illusion of the achievements they claim to have achieved.”
The missile attack followed Israeli airstrikes on Thursday, which targeted ports and energy infrastructure in areas controlled by Houthi rebels in Yemen. Israel had also warned of more strikes in the future.
Since October 7, Houthi rebels have been launching missile and drone attacks on Israel in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza, amid genocide by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF).
The overall Palestinian death toll since the beginning of Israel’s war on Gaza has reached at least 45,206 with more than 107,512 wounded. Thousands more remain trapped under the rubble of destroyed buildings.
