According to initial polling results from the November 5 election, Republicans are leading with 230 electoral votes, with Donald Trump securing North Carolina, the first of seven critical swing states expected to determine the next president. The Democrats trail with 193 electoral votes.
So far, Republicans have secured 166 seats in the House of Representatives, while Democrats have won 117 seats. In the Senate, Republicans hold 48 seats, and Democrats have 42.
Trump is also leading in Georgia, the second swing state, with Kamala Harris close behind; however, vote counting is still underway.
In the previous election, Democrats narrowly won Georgia in a highly competitive race against Republicans.
Over 78.9 million Americans have already cast their ballots. To win the election, a candidate must secure at least 270 of the 538 electoral votes.
In this election, seven battleground states, Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin are expected to play pivotal roles in deciding the next US president.
Trump and Harris have each secured most of the states they were expected to win. However, results from key battleground states may not be available until later in the evening.
