Islamophobia has surged in the United Kingdom, with reported incidents doubling compared to two years ago. The overwhelming propaganda falsely labels Muslims as terrorists, according to an organisation that tracks hate crimes against Muslims.

In its latest report, Tell Mama documented over 6,000 complaints of anti-Muslim hate incidents, noting a sharp rise in hate propaganda following Israel’s war on Gaza and the Southport attacks in 2024.

Men, more than women, have been the primary targets, facing abusive language, harassment, physical assaults, discrimination, and vandalism, both in public spaces and workplaces.

The increasing attacks on Muslim men highlight “the deepening impact of harmful stereotypes that fuel societal divisions and reinforce false notions about Muslim identities,” Tell Mama stated.

The organisation further noted that the hate narrative “falsely portrays Muslims as terrorists or terrorist sympathisers.”

In response to the findings, a UK government spokesperson reaffirmed the state's commitment to combating racism against Muslims and all other communities.

Tell Mama recorded a 43% increase in hate incidents against Muslims in 2024, receiving 6,313 reports, of which 5,837 were verified. Offline incidents saw a staggering 73% rise compared to two years ago, with at least 3,680 cases reported.

Established in 2012, Tell Mama has been documenting Islamophobic acts and providing support to victims.

The recent spike in xenophobia against Muslims has been particularly pronounced following the Southport attacks, where three girls were killed during a dance class, fueling anti-Muslim propaganda.

However, the attacker was later identified as a Christian and the son of Rwandan parents. He is currently serving a 50-year prison sentence.
