The United States is preparing to send a second aircraft carrier to the Middle East. This move comes amid growing tension with Iran over its nuclear program.

President Donald Trump warned that failure to reach a deal could have “traumatic” consequences.

The carrier USS Gerald R Ford, the largest nuclear-powered aircraft carrier in the world, will be deployed along with its escort ships.

These ships will join the USS Abraham Lincoln, which is already in the region. The Ford is currently in the Caribbean and is not expected to return to its home port until late April or early May.

The US-Iran talks in Oman last week were aimed at curbing Iran’s nuclear ambitions. Trump has made it clear that avoiding military action depends on a successful agreement.

“We have to make a deal, otherwise it’s going to be very traumatic. I don’t want that to happen, but we have to make a deal,” he said.

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently met Trump and stated that the US leader believes a “good deal” with Iran is possible.

However, Netanyahu expressed doubts about the agreement’s strength, particularly regarding Iran’s ballistic missile program.

Tensions have been escalating since protests in Iran last month, which human rights groups say led to thousands of deaths.

The United States is using the aircraft carrier deployments to signal military readiness while continuing diplomatic efforts.
