Riot police, equipped with batons, intervened during a pro-Palestine demonstration at the University of Amsterdam (UvA), marking the latest clash in a series of confrontations between law enforcement and protestors at Dutch universities.

Students and faculty organized a nationwide walkout on Monday morning, demanding that Dutch institutions cease their involvement in what they termed "the ongoing genocide" in Gaza. They also condemned the use of violent tactics by police to quell peaceful demonstrations.

"The National Walkout protest, which initially began peacefully, unfortunately escalated into an occupation of the UvA's Roeterseiland campus building," the university stated, urging protestors to vacate the premises.

Law enforcement was summoned to the scene by the UvA administration, citing reports of property damage by demonstrators.

Sarah Bracke, a professor of sociology of gender and sexuality at UvA, expressed profound dismay at the actions of the university's executive board.

"For three consecutive days, they have sanctioned severe police violence against their own faculty and students, who were peacefully protesting on campus against UvA's involvement in the ongoing Gaza genocide," the statement asserted.

"We are appalled by the utter disregard, disrespect, and overall reluctance of the Board towards its student body and faculty."
