An explosion that struck a wedding celebration in southern Iran that killed four people and injured at least 68 others.

Reuters shared photographs and videos of the incident with four weapons experts, who concluded that the damage was unlikely to have resulted from a ricochet from a nearby target or an Iranian air-defense missile.

The US military had carried out strikes across southern Iran that night, targeting air-defense, radar and communications facilities.

Two US officials said strikes were conducted near Kuhestak, targeting a telecommunications tower about 135 metres from the wedding site.

JD Vance said Washington was investigating the incident, while the US military acknowledged reports of civilian casualties.

Among those killed were wedding guests, including a four-year-old child, while another teenager reportedly died near the communications tower.

Mourners later gathered in Kuhestak and nearby Sirik for funeral processions, as the incident intensified scrutiny over civilian casualties in the US-Iran conflict.
