At least two motorcyclists were killed, and one sustained serious injuries, when a water tanker struck them on Shaheed-e-Millat Bridge on Friday, according to rescue sources.
The incident occurred early in the morning. The tragic accident sparked anger among commuters, who subsequently set the water tanker on fire in protest.
The tanker driver managed to escape from the scene.
Meanwhile, the deceased and injured motorcyclists were transported to Jinnah Hospital.
According to the police, the incident was being investigated and the water tanker was taken into police custody.
Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori expressed concern over the fatal incident that claimed the lives of two individuals.
Governor Tessori directed Inspector General (IG) Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon to investigate the incident and submit a report. He directed the relevant authorities to take strict action against the negligent tanker driver.
Earlier, in December, Governor Sindh Kamran Tessori had pledged to take action against reckless dumpers and heavy traffic causing fatalities in the port city.
He had said that he would personally stand in front of the heavy goods vehicles if the incident was not stopped.
Tessori believed that road traffic accident (RTA) in Karachi was a result lack of enforcement against these big vehicles. He had cited the tragic death of a two-year-old girl who had been crushed by a dumper in the accident.
"Day or night, dumpers roam freely on Karachi’s streets, causing devastation. If this does not stop, you will see your governor standing in front of them," Geo News quoted Tessori.
