The officials of the Food Security Ministry informed about the establishment of a donkey slaughterhouse in Gwadar, Balochistan, in a session of the National Assembly Standing Committee.

Officials from the ministry indicated that a contract has been finalized with a Chinese entity for the export of donkey skin and bones, with the Chinese company tasked with managing the facility in Gwadar.

Committee members raised inquiries regarding the absence of live donkey exports to China.

In response, ministry officials clarified that the process of exporting live animals is significantly more complex.

Furthermore, they mentioned that there have been numerous requests for the establishment of similar slaughterhouses in various regions of the country, and discussions are ongoing with additional Chinese firms concerning potential collaborations.

Committee member Rana Muhammad Hayat pointed out that the rising prevalence of motor vehicles has contributed to the reduced reliance on donkeys in Pakistan, and he advocated for breeding initiatives aimed at enhancing the quality of the donkey population.
