Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) issued a notification on Friday night to cancel the basic party membership of Sher Afzal Marwat, which was denied by Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan.
“On the basis of findings of the committee and his latest statements and complaints received, the committee has recommended termination of his membership and the same has been approved by the founding chairman lmran Khan,” the notification read.
PTI leader Advocate Shoaib Shaheen confirmed that Marwat was terminated from the party, while Chairman Gohar refuted the claims and declared the notification ‘fake’.
“The notification circulating across social media is fake, I must have information if something happens like this,” he said while speaking to the media.
“I would not decide to suspend the membership of any member, and Sher Afzal Marwat is one of the loyal companions of Imran Khan,” he added.
It is pertinent to mention here that Marwat was notified of his over-spoken behaviour in the media, and he was warned to prevent himself from making derogatory statements.
Moreover, the party had constituted a committee led by Additional Secretary General Firdous Shamim Naqvi to monitor social media posts of the party lawmaker.
“The committee has concluded that Sher Afzal Marwat has no regard for the rules and discipline of the party, and he considers himself above the party regulations,” wrote Naqvi in the alleged notification.
According to the sources, the notification being circulated on social media regarding the termination of Marwat was shared in the PTI core committee’s WhatsApp group.
However, the PTI said that he could not be expelled from the party as Imran Khan considers him ‘an asset’.
