Karachi: Seven killed in rain-related incidents as more showers expected today

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast more rainfall in Karachi today (Sunday), following three days of light to moderate monsoon showers that have brought some relief from the intense heat but also led to deaths in the city.
According to rescue officials, eight people have lost their lives and seven others have been injured in rain-related accidents over the past two days.
In one tragic incident, a father and daughter died when the roof of their home collapsed in Lyari, injuring five others. Another roof collapse in Manzoor Colony claimed the life of a child and left a father and son wounded.
Five more deaths were reported due to electrocution in different parts of Karachi. The victims included a 40-year-old man, Gulfam, in New Karachi Sector 11-J; a 22-year-old in Golimar; 21-year-old Ahmed in Surjani Town; and 17-year-old Mudassir in Korangi.
The Met Office has predicted partly cloudy skies today, with chances of more rain and drizzle. The maximum temperature is expacted to be 32°C, with humidity levels at 83% and winds blowing from the northeast at 11 km/h.
The PMD has warned of a second monsoon spell starting July 5. So far, monsoon-related incidents have claimed 40 lives across the country, including 18 children.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 19 people have died in flash floods and roof collapses over the past 36 hours, 13 of them in Swat alone. Punjab has reported 15 fatalities since Wednesday, eight of them children who were killed in structural collapses during heavy downpours.
