Karachi intermediate board chairman allows students to check their exam copies amid outrage over result

Amid public outrage over alleged irregularities in examination results, the Chairman of the Karachi Intermediate Board announced that students dissatisfied with their marks will be allowed to review their exam copies.

The announcement came after students who received low marks staged a protest outside the Karachi Press Club, demanding transparency in the marking process.

They called for the formation of a committee, including parents, to oversee result scrutiny, rejecting the idea of reviews conducted behind closed doors.

The protesting students also alleged that officials from the Intermediate Board demanded bribes, further fueling concerns over the credibility of the results.

In response, Chairman Sharaf Ali Shah assured students that their concerns would be addressed. Speaking to a local news channel, he stated that students who applied for scrutiny could review their exam copies alongside their professors or parents if they remained dissatisfied with the re-evaluation.

The Intermediate results have affected students' chances of securing admission to universities. In the first year of Intermediate, 66% of students in the pre-medical group and 74% in the pre-engineering group failed their exams.

Meanwhile, recently dismissed Chairman of the Karachi Intermediate Board, Amir Hussain Qadri, defended the results, asserting that they were based on merit and had been re-examined following complaints.

Qadri was removed from office by the Sindh government shortly after the results were announced, reportedly for traveling abroad without official permission.
