Pakistan Railways ordered to pay Rs50,000 compensation to passenger for train delay

A consumer court in Karachi has ordered Pakistan Railways to pay Rs50,000 in compensation to a passenger over a delay in the arrival of the Khyber Mail.

Judge Abdul Ahad Memon passed the order on a complaint filed by lawyer Ayaz Chachar.

According to the complaint, the lawyer had booked a ticket for the Khyber Mail from Ghotki to Karachi on January 25, 2025. The train was scheduled to arrive at Ghotki at 6:40pm but reached the station at 10:11pm, causing a delay of more than three hours.

The train was scheduled to reach Karachi at 6:40am but arrived at 10:45am, according to the complaint.

Chachar said the delay caused him mental distress and affected his pre-arranged commitments. He claimed that Pakistan Railways had failed to honour its commitment and initially sought Rs5 million in compensation.

After hearing the case, the consumer court ordered Pakistan Railways to pay Rs50,000 to the complainant as compensation.
