A relative of seven-year-old Mohammed Sarim, who was brutally raped and strangled to death, has been taken into custody on suspicion.
A DNA test is currently being conducted on the suspect to determine their involvement in the heinous crime.
Sarim's body was recovered from an underground water tank in a North Karachi residential apartment, 11 days after his disappearance.
According to Anti-Violence Crime Cell Senior Superintendent of Police Aneel Haider, the initial autopsy report suggests that Sarim was killed five days ago, and his body was dumped in the underground water tank of the same apartment where he lived.
The autopsy report revealed disturbing details, including a broken bone in Sarim's neck, indicating strangulation.
Police surgeon Dr. Samia confirmed that the medical report suggests Sarim was subjected to sexual assault before being strangled to death, with multiple wounds found on his body.
In response to the incident, Karachi Police chief Javed Alam Odho chaired a meeting to review progress in cases related to child kidnappings.
The police have been ordered to take strict measures to recover missing children and expedite investigations into such cases.
