A head constable of Punjab Police, Shahid Saleemi Gujjar, captured hearts online for his warm and spiritual interaction with Sikh pilgrims visiting Pakistan’s Nankana Sahib district for their religious rituals.

The official X account of Punjab Police shared a video of Shahid reciting mystical poetry, captioning it, “Punjab Police Constable Shahid's welcoming of Sikh pilgrims from abroad with the mystical poetry of Hazrat Mian Muhammad Bakhsh is a perfect manifestation of the culture of Pakistani and Indian Punjab. Mystical words enchanted the Sikh pilgrims and emotions welled up. Officers like Shahid are the pride of Punjab Police."

Shahid, a resident of Sheikhupura district, welcomed the pilgrims using the soulful verses of renowned Sufi poet Hazrat Mian Muhammad Bakhsh.

In the video, he was surrounded by male and female Sikh pilgrims, many of whom were seen praising him, hugging him emotionally, and even shedding tears during the heartfelt moment.

Shahid, who joined the police force 11 years ago after completing his graduation, is not only a dedicated officer but also a well-known Naat Khawan across various parts of Punjab.

Due to the large influx of Sikh visitors, Shahid was assigned to a check post in Nankana Sahib. Recalling the moment, he said, "When I was on duty, some of the Sikh pilgrims recognised me. They said, ‘You recite the Kalam, we’ve seen your videos.’”

Shahid said he often recites the poetry of Mian Muhammad Bakhsh, Khwaja Ghulam Farid, and Waris Shah.

He further shared, “While I was reciting, a Sikh visitor from America or Europe told me, ‘We were afraid of coming to Pakistan, but the way you people treat us with respect and love, this is something we’ll never forget.’”

Reflecting on his sudden viral fame, Shahid humbly said, “If I am going viral today, it is only because of the love and prayers of my mother, siblings, and daughters. Nothing compares to a mother’s blessings.”

Sikh pilgrims were deeply moved by Shahid’s warmth, with one saying, “We kissed his hands involuntarily. Though we will leave on Saturday, we will never forget the love of the people of Pakistan and our encounter with Shahid.”
