Former Pakistan Army veteran, Major (retd) Hafizuddin Ahmad, who relocated to Bangladesh after the country’s independence, is on a visit to Pakistan after over five decades. He was warmly received by senior officers of the PMA 16th War Course, his former battalion colleagues.

Hafizuddin also represented Pakistan’s national football team for three years, from 1968 to 1971, before the tumultuous period leading to East Pakistan's secession.

After moving to Bangladesh, Hafizuddin ventured into politics and served as a minister.

Currently a legislator, he has been an outspoken opponent of Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajid and her party.

His political stance led to restrictions on his movements, preventing him from visiting Pakistan for decades.

Now, after 50 years, Hafizuddin expressed his overwhelming gratitude for the warmth and enthusiasm with which he was welcomed.

His former colleagues, many of whom retired as senior officers, including Lt Generals, hosted a celebratory gathering for him at a local garrison.

Lt Gen (retd) Khateer Hussain presented Hafizuddin with a shield to commemorate his visit, with several members of the 16th PMA War Course in attendance.

Hafizuddin is currently being hosted by the Pakistan Army in Lahore and Islamabad.

In the federal capital, he is staying with former federal secretary Syed Anwar Mahmood, who is his close friend and fellow alumnus of Dhaka.
