Seven suspects arrested in Maulana Idrees murder case

The police investigating the assassination of former JUI lawmaker Maulana Sheikh Idrees have arrested seven key suspects in connection with the case.

They said that the suspects were detained from different areas of the Mardan region and are currently being interrogated.

According to officials, geofencing of various locations in Peshawar, Charsadda and Nowshera is also underway as part of the probe.

Investigative authorities further said that they were reviewing footage showing an alleged target killer fleeing from Charsadda. CCTV footage reportedly captured the suspect in the Chamkani and Kohat Road areas of Peshawar.

According to investigators, the alleged attacker travelled on a motorcycle from Chamkani to Charsadda via the service road at around 5:30am on the day of the incident.

Officials added that Safe City teams and other investigative units are assisting in the inquiry.
Maulana Sheikh Idrees was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Charsadda on May 5.
