The Sindh Education Department has directed all schools in the province to collect free textbooks from students once annual exams are over.
According to a spokesperson of the provincial education department, return of textbooks must be recorded on students’ report cards and detailed records be maintained showing books issued and returned. The directive covers students from primary to higher secondary levels.
Education authorities were reportedly instructed that all collected textbooks should be placed in school book banks so they can be reused in future academic sessions. This has been done to reduce costs associated with printing new sets each year.
It was also reported that district education officers have been directed to submit stock records to regional directors to ensure transparency.
Education officials say collecting books after exams will help maintain a pool of learning materials, especially in areas where printing delays or shortages have previously hampered academic progress in government schools.
