In a bid to reduce unemployment, the Sindh government announced to provide electric vehicle (EV) taxis to residents of the province on an installment payment basis.

Provincial Minister of Transport Sharjeel Inam Memon stated on Wednesday that the government has devised an eco-friendly employment plan under which individuals who are unable to find work will be employed by providing them with E-taxis.

According to the minister, he recently held a meeting with EV assemblers, where he was briefed about the taxis.

Sindh government spokesperson Sadia Javed stated that it has been decided to offer EV taxis to unemployed youth in easy installments soon.

In this regard, Sharjeel Memon instructed the Transport Secretary to contact various banks and develop different financial models.

Memon emphasised his determination to empower individuals through employment, enabling them to earn a sustainable living

In line with the Sindh government's vision for a “Green Sindh,” the eco-friendly e-taxis initiative aims to promote environmentally responsible transportation while fostering economic opportunities.

The senior provincial minister said that introducing EV taxis will create employment opportunities for our youth, and the plan is an initiative to put the unemployed on their feet and promote economic development through sustainable means.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Sindh Government was the first province in Pakistan which introduced EVs in the public transportation system with the collaboration of China.
