Have you ever wondered why bananas always appear to be crooked but not straight? Netizens have raised a query on Quora.
This query has received numerous replies from all around the world which have gone viral as well, and now it is believed that there is a scientific reason behind the crooked shape of a banana.
There are numerous varieties of bananas in the world in different colors like yellow, green, red, purple, and brown. Bananas are a major source of vitamin C, vitamin B6, potassium, and various antioxidants and phytonutrients, which carry health benefits including improving digestion, building lean muscles, and supporting bone health.
Responding to the query, a user stated that bananas go through a different process of growth. It is called negative geotropism. This cites the tendency of the tree to grow against gravity. Most plants move towards growth while growing but in a negative geotropism, the plants face the sun.
“Initially, this fruit grows towards the ground but later due to the tendency of negative geotropism, it tries to grow towards the sun, instead of the ground.” wrote the other user.
The bananas are always crooked in shape due to negative geotropism, most of the users have replied the same.
While explaining the different aspects of the query, another Quora user said that bananas contain a chemical called Auxin that makes them grow toward the sun. He claimed that many corporate owners use Auxin herbicides to make bananas more crooked.
