Minor housemaid dies after torture by employers in Rawalpindi

A minor housemaid in Rawalpindi, who was shifted to hospital in critical condition after being tortured by her employers, a husband and wife, succumbed to her wounds on Wednesday, police confirmed.
Confirming the death of Iqra, police said the 12-year-old maid was rushed to the Holy Family Hospital Rawalpindi from the Asghar Mall Scheme area in an unconscious state as her condition deteriorated due to the torture.
The police apprehended and booked the employers over their alleged involvement in the murder of the minor under the multiple sections of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), including attempt of murder.

According to the police, the mother of the deceased was observing Iddat following the death of her father a month ago.
They added that after she was shifted to the hospital, the doctor informed the police that she had several torture marks on her body. A woman who used to teach the Quran to the children of employers at their home brought her to the hospital.
However, due to the severe injuries on her body, she did not survive and lost her life during treatment.
The Quran teacher said the girl was working at Mian Rashid’s house and that she had brought her to the hospital out of humanity, as she could see her deteriorated condition.
Subsequently, police apprehended the employers, husband and wife, and after interrogation, found them involved in violence.

Initial investigations revealed that an incident of violence seemed to have occurred a few days prior, leading to her deteriorating condition. Her condition worsened during treatment.
Meanwhile, Chairperson Child Protection Bureau Sarah Ahmed also took notice of the incident of violence against a minor domestic worker and described the incident as regretful.
