India: Sick elderly woman dies after being dumped by family on roadside

An elderly woman, suffering from cancer, died after being abandoned in critical condition on a roadside by her family in India's Uttar Pradesh during the late night hours. 

Local police had rushed the woman, believed to be in her late 70s or early 80s, to hospital after the locals informed them about her condition.

CCTV footage showed two women, aided by the rickshaw driver, leaving the unconcious elderly woman on the roadside. She appeared to be frail and fragile due to illness. The trio then fled immediately after abandoning her.

According to police, the woman was visibly unwell and unable to speak or identify herself when locals found her. Alarmed by her critical condition, residents informed the police, who rushed her to Darshannagar Medical College.

Despite medical intervention, she succumbed to her condition during treatment.

Efforts are underway to establish the identity of the woman, with authorities reaching out to residents in nearby areas. Investigators are also working to trace the people seen in the CCTV footage.

“Our priority was to save the woman’s life. Now, we are focused on bringing those responsible to justice,” said a senior police official. “We are confident the suspects will be identified and apprehended soon.”

The incident has sparked widespread anger over the treatment of elderly family members, with local authorities urging citizens to come forward with any information that might help the investigation.
