Islamabad SP Adeel Akbar commits suicide by shooting self

SP Industrial Area, Islamabad, Adeel Akbar, committed suicide by shooting himself with a pistol on Thursday, media reports said, citing police sources.

Adeel Akbar took a firearm from a gunman on duty and shot himself, the reports said, adding that he was immediately transferred to PIMS Hospital in critical condition but could not be saved.

The sources said that shortly before the incident, Adeel Akbar had visited Haji Camp to assess security arrangements. During the visit, he met officers on duty, reviewed security measures, and issued instructions to remain alert.

The Islamabad police shared a post on their official X account along with photographs of Adeel Akbar during his inspection at Haji Camp.

Adeel Akbar, an esteemed officer of the Police Service of Pakistan (PSP), recently joined the Islamabad police as Superintendent of Police (SP) for Industrial Area. He had an MPhil degree in Governance and Public Policy from National Defence University, Islamabad.

Beginning his career as an Assistant Superintendent of Police, he has served with distinction across various cities in the province of Balochistan, commanding multiple police units. His extensive expertise spans security management, community policing, human rights protection, counter-terrorism, human resources management, police operations, security analysis, and crisis management.
