A dramatic scene of chaos unfolded in Karachi’s Sakhi Hassan area when a robber attempted to evade arrest by climbing onto electric wires from an overhead bridge.

According to reports, the suspect was in the middle of robbing a food delivery rider when he spotted police at the scene. He rushed onto the overhead bridge and desperately latched onto the electric wires in an attempt to escape.

Passersby gathered below, shouting at the thief to come down, while police officers stood ready with a large cloth to catch him in case he fell. The commotion also caused a traffic jam in the area.

The suspect dangled mid-air for several minutes, attempting to move forward despite warnings from onlookers about the risk of electrocution.

However, realising there was no escape route ahead, he eventually lost his grip and fell straight onto the cloth held by the police, avoiding any injuries.

A surge in street crime has marred the month of Ramadan in Karachi, claiming five lives in just five days. All victims were killed while resisting robbery attempts, bringing the robbery-related death toll to 18 so far this year.

Despite the ongoing bandit rule in the city, police officers claim that there has been a decrease in the number of robberies.
