An alleged victim of mugging in Karachi accused the police of torturing him instead of registering a robbery case.

The victim, Danish Qureshi, claimed that he was robbed a week prior, with robbers snatching his phone and Rs68,000 in cash. However, despite multiple attempts, the police refused to file a First Information Report (FIR).

In a video statement, Danish, who owns a car showroom, said he was looted on February 27 while returning home. When he went to the Ajmair Nagri police station to file a complaint, the police received his application but did not register the case and asked him to visit after two days.

"When I went to the police station after two days, I had to wait for two hours, but they asked me to come back the next day," he said.

He added that when he returned the next day, the police again refused to register the FIR, claiming that the Station House Officer (SHO) was busy and that an FIR could not be filed without his permission.

Danish alleged that when he sought help from the media, the police started “harassing” him. After the news aired on the television, six police officers took him to the station, where SHO Ghulam Yaseen allegedly threatened him, saying, "You are on my hit list, as you aired news against me."

Danish also accused the police of stealing Rs78,000 and a licensed gun from his pocket while he was at the police station.

“There were six police officers, of which three, including Asad, Danish, and Adeel, were wearing name badges, while the others did not show their identities," he added.

Danish urged the Inspector General of Sindh Police, Ghulam Nabi Memon, to ensure justice, stating that he has all the evidence, including CCTV footage of the robbery, his detention by the police, and eyewitness statements.
