Young man found dead in suspected suicide in New Karachi

A 24-year-old man was found dead with a noose around his neck inside his rented room in Karachi’s New Karachi area, with police initially terming the incident a suspected suicide.

According to police, the body was recovered from a house in Sector 5-F within the jurisdiction of the New Karachi Industrial Area police station.

The deceased was later identified at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital as Suraj Kumar, 24, who hailed from Mithi.

A police official said that the deceased worked at a shop owned by a man identified as Suresh near the Sindhi Hotel area in New Karachi and had rented a room for residence. The police said Suraj had closed the shop the previous night and collected money from his employer for dinner before heading to his room.

When he did not report for work the next morning and the shop remained closed for a long time, the owner went to check on him.

After repeated knocks went unanswered, the shop owner and others climbed over the wall and entered the premises, where they saw the man hanging from the ceiling through a window.

Police said the room was locked from the inside, adding that while the case appeared to be a suicide, further investigation was under way.
