India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 due to a lower back injury sustained during the final Test against Australia in Sydney last month.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed the development on Monday, naming pacer Harshit Rana as his replacement.

This marks the second time Bumrah has missed a major ICC event due to injury, having previously been sidelined from the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia due to a similar back issue that required surgery.

Additionally, the BCCI announced a change in the squad, with spinner Varun Chakaravarthy replacing Yashasvi Jaiswal, who was originally included in the provisional team.

Rana, who had been named as Bumrah’s backup for the England ODI series, has shown promise, taking four wickets in his first two 50-over matches for India.

India’s 15-member squad includes Rohit Sharma (captain), Shubman Gill (vice-captain), Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya, and Ravindra Jadeja. Non-traveling reserves Yashasvi Jaiswal, Mohammed Siraj, and Shivam Dube will be on standby in Dubai if required.

The Champions Trophy 2025 is set to begin on February 19, with India’s campaign kicking off in Dubai.
