Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif has called for a major revamp of the national team’s fast bowling unit following their 78-run defeat to New Zealand in the tri-nation series opener.

Speaking on a private news channel, Latif criticised senior pacers, particularly Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah, questioning their recent performances.

He emphasised that Afridi has not delivered a match-winning performance for some time, while Naseem’s contributions remain limited despite his experience.

Latif highlighted that while players like Khushdil Shah and Salman Agha often face criticism, key players such as Babar Azam, Muhammad Rizwan, Afridi, and Naseem are not held accountable for their underwhelming performances.

He stressed that the team’s overall performance depends on senior players stepping up.

Discussing Pakistan’s bowling concerns, Latif pointed out that Haris Rauf’s injury significantly impacted the team. He urged the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to adopt a fresh approach, focusing on developing new pacers and ensuring accountability among senior players.

Earlier, Pakistan failed to chase New Zealand’s 331-run target, getting bowled out for 252 in 47.5 overs at Gaddafi Stadium. Fakhar Zaman top-scored with 84 runs off 69 balls, hitting four sixes and seven boundaries.
