The authorities in Dubai have established at least 40 air-conditioned rest areas at several locations across the emirate to provide a comfortable environment for delivery riders, who can rest peacefully while waiting for orders.

The initiative taken by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), indicated their commitment to improving the quality of life, with the provision of basic services and comfort to the delivery riders while they were waiting for the order in the harsh weather.

Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, said that the implementation of these rest areas was a part of RTA’s commitment to providing a safe and comfortable environment for delivery riders during the rapid growth of the sector in recent years.

"By the end of June, Dubai was home to 2,535 companies offering motorcycle delivery services, with a total fleet of 46,600 delivery bikes. This initiative also reinforces road safety for all road users and aligns with Dubai’s Traffic Safety Strategy, which targets ‘Zero Fatalities’, positioning the emirate as a global leader in road safety.”

Al Tayer mentioned that the rest areas were created to reduce sun exposure while providing efficient insulation and maintaining visibility. Each facility includes a cooled seating space that can hold up to 10 riders, depending on the site, along with assigned parking spots for motorcycles next to the rest areas.

The rest areas were made after analysing the operational data acquired from delivery companies. The data assisted the authority in selecting key locations where demand for online delivery was high.

After analyding the data, rest areas were established at Hessa Street, Barsha Heights, Al Barsha, Al Karama, Riggat Al Buteen, Umm Suqeim (Jumeirah 3), Jumeirah (Al Wasl Road), The Greens, Dubai World Trade Centre, Al Rashidiya, Al Satwa, Nad Al Hamar, Al Nahda, Oud Metha, Arabian Ranches, International City, Business Bay, Dubai Marina, Al Jaddaf, Mirdif, Last Exit Al Khawaneej, Dubai Motor City, and Al Garhoud.
