Several recently released Palestinian prisoners are suffering from scabies, a contagious skin disease, according to the Palestinian Asra (Prisoners) Media Office.

The organisation said that some freed detainees are unable to physically embrace their families due to the infection, which causes severe itching and rashes.

Scabies, caused by mite infestation, has reportedly spread among Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails over the past two years, a situation attributed to poor hygiene conditions and inadequate medical care.

The Asra Media Office further alleged that Israeli authorities have deliberately neglected treatment, claiming that this was done to “take revenge on prisoners.”

Health experts have repeatedly warned that overcrowded prisons and lack of sanitation facilities create conditions for such diseases to spread quickly.
