Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian narrowly escaped an Israeli missile strike during a high-level government meeting held on June 15, amid the 12-day war between Iran and Israel. The targeted attack struck the building where a meeting of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council was underway.

Israeli forces reportedly launched six missiles at the meeting venue, aiming to eliminate the heads of Iran's three government branches and destabilise the government.

The missiles were fired at the entrance and exit points of the building to block escape routes and cut off ventilation.

President Pezeshkian sustained a minor leg injury during the incident but, along with other senior officials, was successfully evacuated to a pre-designated secure location.

Given the precision of the strike, Iranian authorities suspected internal espionage. An investigation wa launched to identify a possible Israeli informant who may have leaked details about the meeting’s timing and location.

According to Iran’s Fars News Agency, a similar strike also targeted former Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.

Earlier, on June 13, Israel launched widespread attacks on Iranian nuclear sites, military installations, and civilian areas. Iranian officials report that at least 606 civilians have been killed and over 5,000 wounded in the offensive.

In retaliation, Iranian forces targeted Israeli sites, killing 29 civilians and injuring over 3,400. The conflict de-escalated on June 24 following US-led diplomatic intervention, but regional tensions remain high.
