Despite his short stature, a three-feet-tall man in India fulfilled his dream of becoming a doctor, inspiring others with his determination.

Dr Ganesh Baraiya initially faced rejection from pursuing a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) due to his height, as the Medical Council of India expressed concerns about his ability to handle emergency cases.

"After I passed Class 12 and cleared the NEET exam to enroll into MBBS and filled up the form, the Medical Council of India committee rejected me for my height, " he shared. "They said that I would not be able to handle emergency cases because of my short height."

Undeterred, Baraiya, along with his school principal, sought assistance from the District Collector and the state Education Minister and took his case to the Gujarat High Court but remained unsuccessful.

He appealed the decision with two other differently-abled candidates and won the case in 2018.

After completing his degree, Baraia subsequently worked as an intern at Sir-T hospital in Bhavnagar.

Coming from a family where none of his eight siblings studied beyond class 10, Ganesh Baraiya, the son of a farmer, is the first member of his family to pursue higher education.

The doctor who defied all odds mentioned that patients tend to judge him based on his height. However, over time, they will become used to it and recognize him as their physician.

“They behave with me cordially and with positivity. They become happy as well,” he said.
