"Braindead consumerism": Salt Bae's $108,000 bill sparks public backlash

Turkish chef Nusret Gokce, aka Salt Bae, sparked outrage on social media after sharing a $108,500 bill he charged at his Dubai restaurant, leaving users disgruntled by the exorbitant prices.
A group of diners paid a hefty amount for a single meal at his Dubai restaurant last week.
Salt Bae shared the staggering receipt on Instagram with the caption, "Money comes, money goes."
The bill shows the dishes as well as the drinks the diners enjoyed at Nusr-Et Steakhouse.

Customers at Salt Bae's Nusr-Et Steakhouse Dubai in the Four Seasons resort on Saturday enjoyed a meal consisting of beef carpaccio, french fries, salad, baklava, and fruit.
Their lavish feast also included gold-covered meat, one filet mignon and three steaks.
For beverages, they ordered four porn star martinis ($130 each), two bottles of Chateau Petrus 2009 ($53,900 each), one bottle of Petrus 2011 ($17,700), and five double glasses of the exclusive Louis XIII cognac neat ($7,500 each).
In addition to the extravagant meal, the diners generously tipped $24,500.
The cost of the dishes and the total amount meanioned in the receipt are all in UAE currency – AED.
As the image of the bill circulated widely,Salt Bae’s restraunt faced strong disapproval with remarks such as, "Most overrated and overpriced restaurant."
Another comment noted, “Bro could’ve fed the whole Gaza Strip for a month with that money on food.”
One user remarked, “Shameful as millions of people suffer from hunger.”
“Braindead consumerism at its finest,” a critic maintained.
Salt Bae is a Turkish butcher, chef and entrepreneur who rose to fame because of his peculiar way of sprinkling salt on a steak.
