A 40-year-old psychologist died after falling from the fifth floor of a residential building in India's Uttar Pradesh state, in an incident police are investigating as a suspected suicide.
According to Indian media reports, the incident occurred on Saturday. Dr Hemika Agrawal was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition, where doctors later pronounced her dead.
Family members told local media that Dr Agrawal had been suffering from severe emotional distress and depression since her daughter's divorce around 18 months ago.
Her father, psychologist Dr R. Chandra, said his daughter's mental health had deteriorated following the divorce and that she had been under significant psychological stress.
Police said they are investigating all aspects of the incident.
Statements from family members are being recorded, while evidence has been collected from the scene.
Authorities said they have not confirmed the recovery of any suicide note. Further legal action will be taken after the post-mortem examination and completion of the investigation, police added.
