A 65-year-old man, who was declared dead, came back to life after the ambulance carrying his body for cremation hit a speed breaker in Maharashtra, India. The fortunate man, Pandurang Ulpe, returned home two weeks later.
Pandurang Ulpe, was diagnosed with cardiac arrest on December 16. After being rushed to the hospital, doctors declared him dead, but he mysteriously revived and recovered from the illness.
His miraculous comeback stunned his family, who recounted the events of December 16, when Ulpe began feeling unwell after returning from the farm. He vomited, prompting his family to rush him to the hospital.
“He was first taken to a private hospital near our residence, but after being diagnosed with cardiac arrest, he was referred to another facility,” said Ulpe’s grandson.
“After the vomiting episode, doctors conducted an ECG, but they declared my grandfather dead,” he added.
The next day, as the family was preparing for his funeral and his body was being transported to the cremation ground, the ambulance struck a speed bump.
Subsequently, the jolt caused a reaction when the driver tried to free the vehicle, which resulted in motion in Ulpe’s body. His fingers moved, and his wrist showed a pulse, prompting the family to rush him to the hospital.
Ulpe was in “critical condition” after returning to life. However, after receiving artificial respiration from a ventilator, his cardiopulmonary resuscitation restored blood flow. Following angiography, he fully recovered and returned home on December 30.
The family has declined to disclose the name of the hospital or the doctor who declared him dead.
However, authorities have launched an investigation. Prakash Pavra, an official from the Municipal Corporation, said that the “incident will be investigated,” as the doctor could not have “declared a person dead without proper examination.”
