A day earlier, the lower house of the parliament had met to elect the speaker and deputy speaker of the National Assembly.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Sardar Ayaz Sadiq was elected as the speaker of the 16th National Assembly through a secret ballot.

PML-N's Ayaz Sadiq and PTI-SIC's Malik Aamir Dogar were vying for the constitutional post of the House.

Sadiq, who was supported by PPP, MQM-P, and other parties, managed to secure the votes of 199 MNAs, while Dogar got the backing of 91 lawmakers.

The outgoing speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf administered the oath to the newly-elected speaker Ayaz Sadiq.

Following the speaker's election, the PPP’s Ghulam Mustafa Shah secured 197 votes for deputy speaker, while his opponent Junaid Akbar of the PTI got 92 votes.

Post-deputy speaker elections, Junaid Akbar gave a fiery speech, which was marred by the funny turn.
