The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has categorically denied reports suggesting an extension in the deadline for filing income tax returns for the tax year 2025, confirming that September 30 remains the final date.
In a statement issued on Monday, the tax authority said it had taken notice of “false, baseless, and misleading” reports circulating on media platforms claiming that the deadline would be extended.
The FBR emphasized that the majority of taxpayers live in areas unaffected by floods and have had sufficient time to fulfill their legal obligation of filing returns. It also rejected suggestions that its online portal had slowed down, stating that the IRIS system was fully operational and returns could be filed smoothly using the simplified return form.
The board warned that failure to file by the due date would result in late-filer status and penalties under the law. “FBR urges all eligible taxpayers to act responsibly and file their income tax returns with accuracy and honesty before the deadline of 30th September, 2025,” the statement read.
It added that in cases of extreme hardship, taxpayers could seek a maximum extension of 15 days, provided that due taxes were paid by September 30 and approval was granted by the relevant committee.
The clarification comes after Salim Valimuhammad, Chairman of the Pakistan Chemical & Dyes Merchants Association (PCDMA), called for an extension, citing abrupt changes in the filing process. The FBR, however, maintained that no amendments had been introduced in the Income Tax Return Form-2025 through any statutory regulatory order (SRO).
