The Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance (PGTA) has welcomed the government's decision to reduce petroleum prices and announced a 15 percent reduction in goods transport fares across the country.
Speaking to media persons in Karachi, PGTA President Malik Shehzad Awan said the reduction in fuel prices had provided much-needed relief to the transport sector, which has been facing rising operational costs in recent months.
He expressed hope that petroleum products would become even cheaper in the coming weeks, further easing financial pressure on transporters and benefiting businesses and consumers alike.
He also urged authorities to immediately withdraw the increase in withholding tax announced in the federal budget.
He called for relief in toll taxes, e-challan penalties, and other levies affecting the transport industry.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced a substantial reduction in petrol and diesel prices.
According to the Prime Minister's statement, the price of petrol will be reduced by PKR 74 per litre, while diesel prices will be cut by PKR 67 per litre.
The Prime Minister stated that the government is fulfilling the commitment it made to the nation. He said that the price of petrol will decrease from PKR 373 per litre to PKR 299 per litre, while diesel prices will fall from PKR 378 per litre to PKR 311 per litre.
