Karachi Nazimabad “pregnancy” case takes dramatic turn as woman reveals truth during police questioning

KARACHI: The mystery surrounding a maternity case in Karachi’s Nazimabad area has been resolved, with the woman revealing all the facts during police questioning.

According to police officials, the incident also revealed criminal negligence on the part of the private hospital and its staff, and action against those responsible is being considered.

Police officials said that the woman had become pregnant about a year ago but lost the baby, which left her distressed. Fearing taunts from her family for being childless, she pretended that she was still pregnant.

According to police, the woman registered herself at the gynecology ward of a private hospital in Nazimabad and, through fraud, added a fake ultrasound report to her medical file.

Police officials said that after completing 38 weeks, the woman arrived at the hospital two days ago. The hospital staff allegedly admitted her without conducting the necessary tests, amounting to criminal negligence. Around eight hours later, the staff administered medication to her and then transferred her to the operating theatre after giving her anesthesia.

During the operation, the female doctor discovered that there was no baby in the woman’s abdomen, which caused a commotion at the hospital.

Police said that all available evidence has been collected and the woman has also undergone a medical examination. Authorities are treating her as a victim of social pressure.

In her statement to police, the woman admitted that she had lied about being pregnant in order to avoid taunts and pressure from her family over being childless.

On the instructions of SSP District Central Dr. Muhammad Imran Khan, a comprehensive investigation into all aspects of the incident is underway.

Police said that after receiving the final report from the Medical Commission, further legal action will be taken against those found responsible in light of the findings.

The police have also included available evidence, medical reports, CCTV footage, and other relevant records as part of the investigation.
