Good news for passengers as Pakistan Railways has announced to reduce fares for all classes of its trains, a notification confirmed Saturday.

The 10 percent reduction in fares applies to both AC and economy classes. The fare for mail trains also reduced as well.

According to an official notification, the new fare structure will come into effect starting September 23.

This move is part of the government’s efforts to make train travel more affordable and accessible for masses.

Earlier, the railways made a decision to operate 10 passenger trains under Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode.

The first phase of privatisation, according to the officials, would start soon while10 trains would be handed over to private operators under the PPP mode. 

The railways had sought applications from the interested parties. The technical bidding would be opened the same day, they added.

Karachi Express, Awam Express, Hazara Express, Bahauddin Zakariya Express, Mehr Express, Sukkur Express, Chenab Express, Mehran Express, Mohenjodaro Passenger Train and Rawalpindi Passenger Train are among those trains which are being considered for privatization.
