A total of 258 inmates across Balochistan’s prisons have been diagnosed with tuberculosis (TB), HIV/AIDS, and hepatitis, according to a report issued by the provincial health department.

The report states that medical screening of 2,954 prisoners was conducted in 12 prisons across Balochistan.

Among those screened, 126 inmates were found to be suffering from tuberculosis, 6 tested positive for HIV/AIDS, while 45 were diagnosed with hepatitis B and 81 with hepatitis C.

This brings the total number of prisoners affected by these infectious diseases to 258.

The highest number of infected inmates, 88 in total, were reported in Mach Central Jail.

Officials from the prisons department said that the screening process has been completed, and treatment for the infected inmates will now begin in collaboration with the health department.
