Karachi: The Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) has introduced an advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based “AI Doctor” system to facilitate patients by providing medical information, explaining hospital procedures, and answering general treatment-related queries.

The system was developed through collaboration between the Sindh Government and the Patients’ Aid Foundation and was introduced in 2025.

The initiative aims not to replace human doctors but to improve communication between patients and healthcare professionals.

The AI Doctor provides patients with information about different stages of treatment in simple language, explains hospital processes, responds to common medical questions, and offers initial guidance before consultations with doctors. This helps patients better understand their health conditions and treatment procedures.

A key feature of the system is that it does not diagnose diseases, prescribe medicines, or make medical decisions.

All diagnoses, medication choices, and treatment decisions continue to be made by qualified and experienced doctors.

Artificial intelligence is increasingly being adopted in healthcare systems worldwide to improve patient support, administrative processes, and the efficiency of medical services.

The launch of this system at JPMC is being viewed as a significant step toward integrating modern technology into public healthcare facilities in Pakistan.
