A three-year-old child in Karachi’s Orangi Town has been diagnosed with HIV, raising fresh concerns over the possible use of unsafe medical equipment and reused syringes in local healthcare facilities.

According to reports, the child, a resident of Orangi Town, tested positive for the virus after undergoing screening through three separate HIV testing kits, all of which confirmed the infection.

The child’s parents said he had recently received treatment for another illness at Valika Hospital.

They claimed the child’s condition began deteriorating after being administered injections and drips during treatment, prompting doctors to recommend an HIV test, which later came back positive.

The parents have expressed fears that their son may have contracted the virus due to unsafe medical practices, including the use of unsterilised equipment or reused syringes at a hospital or clinic.

Health workers and medical sources say Orangi Town remains one of the most vulnerable areas in Karachi in terms of HIV spread.
