KARACHI: Following a laboratory’s report labeling 11 packaged snack items as “unfit” for human consumption, the Sindh Food Authority (SFA) instructed a private company to remove them from the market immediately.
The products not fit for human consumption include Slanty Vegetable, Snackers Hot Masala, Snackers Pizza, Twitch Classic, Potato Sticks, Cheese Ball Masala, Cheese Balls Cheese, Kai Korean Hot, Kai Spicy Mala, Kai Mala Wok, and Kai Korean Kimchi.
SFA Director General Muzamil Hussain Halepoto has mandated that the company withdraw these items within three days, warning that legal action will follow if the deadline is not met. He also urged other provincial food authorities to investigate similar issues to ensure public health safety.
Approximately two and a half months ago, the company submitted 24 products for registration. The SFA forwarded samples to the Food Testing Laboratory at the University of Karachi, which determined that 11 products did not meet safety and quality standards.
In a letter to the company, the SFA noted that the product registration application was submitted on March 6, and subsequent lab testing revealed significant health hazards, constituting serious violations of legal regulations.
