Asim Azhar, Merub Ali part ways three years after engagement

Popular showbiz couple Asim Azhar and Merub Ali have officially parted ways, three years after their engagement, leaving fans shocked and sparking a wave of speculation across social media.

Late Wednesday night, Asim Azhar took to Instagram to share a note on his story, announcing the couple’s decision to go their separate ways. He stated that the decision was mutual and respectfully requested privacy during this time.

“After a great deal of though and reflection, Merub and I have chosen to move forward on separate paths peacefully and mutually,” he said.

“While we shared meaningful moments and genuinely hoped for a future together, life sometimes takes its own course.”

Asim Azhar emphasised that their families will maintain cordial relations despite the split.

"We have the utmost respect for each other and the families involved and always will," his statement read. "We kindly ask for your understanding and privacy during this time, and hope this is met with same grace with which it is being shared." The former couple has also unfollowed each other on Instagram.

Asim and Merub got engaged in March 2022 after long-standing rumors of a romance. They were frequently seen together at events, and their pictures often circulated on social media.

Last year, during a comedy show, a female fan asked Asim about his wedding plans. He responded that a date hadn't been set but that both their parents had consented. He then asked the fan to "Please pray that our parents give us good news soon."

Prior to his engagement with Merub, Asim Azhar's close friendship with Hania Aamir captivated their fans and showbiz circles. Their rumored breakup in 2020 also made headlines and led to both facing online trolling.
