Following the Sindh government’s announcement to collaborate with the film industry on a biopic about Pakistan’s greatest humanitarian, Sir Abdul Sattar Edhi, actor Yasir Hussain has expressed his interest in joining the project.
Taking to social media, Hussain shared his enthusiasm, saying, “I’d love to audition for this,” signalling his eagerness to be part of the highly anticipated film.
According to reports, the Sindh government has partnered with filmmakers to produce a feature film that will chronicle the extraordinary life and legacy of Abdul Sattar Edhi, a man revered across the globe for his selfless service to humanity.
The biopic aims to present a powerful tribute to Edhi’s lifelong mission of compassion, social justice, and community service. From his humble beginnings to founding one of the world’s largest volunteer ambulance networks, the film will highlight the trials, values, and achievements that defined Edhi's life.
Born in 1928, Edhi began his humanitarian journey with a single dispensary in Karachi. In 1951, he officially launched the Edhi Foundation, which over the decades evolved into Pakistan’s most trusted and far-reaching social welfare network.
He established hospitals, orphanages, shelters for women and the elderly, and rehabilitation centres across the country. Known for his humility, Edhi lived in a modest room at his centre, dressed simply, and dedicated every donation to public service.
Sir Abdul Sattar Edhi passed away in July 2016. His legacy lives on through the Edhi Foundation, first carried forward by his wife Bilquis Edhi until her death in 2022, and now by their son Faisal Edhi, who continues to serve millions in need.
